Is God Cruel? (Part Two)

Scenario 1: A tornado hits a house; it is totally destroyed, but all the occupants live. People proclaim, “It’s a miracle. Praise God!” (That the house was hit at all appears irrelevant.)

Scenario 2: A tornado hits a house; it is totally destroyed and all the occupants die. People proclaim, “It’s God’s will.”

It seems to me that God never loses. Am I missing something? Any comments?

According to the Bible, yes, exactly. God never loses. “The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away.” Read the Book of Job (supposedly it’s the earliest book of the Bible – chronologically speaking) to get an in-depth view of this mentality. It’s quite a story, but you certainly won’t be happy after you read it.

Devoutly religious people put it like this: “God always answers your prayers. It’s just that sometimes the answer is no.” It also makes me think of someone who is hit by a bus and maybe suffers catastrophic injuries, but doesn’t die, and people refer to him as lucky. In my opinion, lucky is not getting hit by a bus in the first place, but it is all relative.
